The Cloud
I Noticed it Today

By Danielle Steffens
Drifting, changing, growing.
I noticed it today for the first time in far too long.
Drifting along. Totally relaxed but fully present.
Feeling the force of the atmosphere around it.
Changing.
Expanding,
contracting.
Twisting,

billowing.
The same but different with each passing second.
Fighting to remain true to itself.
But failing to resist the pressure to change.
Growing.
Bigger, yes.
But also different, better.
It’s age adding to it’s allure. Making it more beautiful with every second. Older, more content with itself, and closer to a morphosis from which it will be impossible to return.

But that’s okay, it wouldn’t want to return anyway.
Something great is on the horizon.
Something that won’t go unnoticed.
Something impossible to miss.
Energy built up over time, waiting for its moment to release.
The moment when it can no longer keep itself contained.
The moment when it will burst and pour out everything it has been working toward.
I noticed it today.
The cloud.
But also…
me.
